Akaiti James
Akaiti James is a dedicated advocate, researcher, and emerging medical professional committed to transforming the landscape of endometriosis care in Australia. Serving as Director on the Board of the Australian Coalition for Endometriosis (ACE) , she brings a both a personal and professional experience of endometriosis to her role.
Her academic journey has been marked by a strong focus on women's health, particularly in understanding and addressing endometriosis. In 2021, Akaiti spearheaded the establishment of Western Australia's first endometriosis biobank at King Edward Memorial Hospital, a project inspired by her mentorship under Professor Fiona Wood, Dr. Mark Fear, and Associate Professor Krish Karthigasu . This initiative aims to advance research into the causes and treatments of endometriosis, providing invaluable resources for scientists and clinicians alike.
Beyond her research endeavours, Akaiti has been instrumental in advocacy efforts at both state and federal levels. As President of Endometriosis Western Australia, she has worked tirelessly to influence public policy and improve healthcare outcomes for those affected by the condition within Western Australia. Her commitment to community engagement is further exemplified by her role in launching the EndometriosisWA Honours Research Scholarship in March 2025, designed to support emerging researchers in the field.
